Abhishek is a climate change professional who has taken different roles throughout his career, worked as a climate activist, researcher, policy analyst, teaching professional, campaigner, community Organizer followed UN Climate negotiation, and worked as Program Manager.
Shrestha was awarded Prestigious Chevening Scholars by the UK Government in 2012 to pursue his Masters in Climate Change and Policy at the University of Sussex, UK. He completed his undergraduate in BSc. Environmental Science from Kathmandu University in 2008. On 5th June 2017 on the occasion of World Environment Day, he was awarded the Climate Change Award 2017 from Rt. Honorable President of Nepal. Shrestha in 2017 received the JWH Initiative Environment leadership Award and “Jaycees Samman 2018” from Biratnagar Jaycees for his contribution to Environmental Sustainability.
Shrestha was awarded British Council International Climate Champion in 2010 and in 2012 was elected to Serve as YOUNGO Focal Point from Global South (YOUNGO- Youth constituency at United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change-UNFCCC). He has also served as a member of Nepal’s Government negotiation team at UNFCCC. Abhishek has been invited to speak at different national and international conferences on the issue of climate change, environmental sustainability, community solutions, and movement building.
He has traveled to over 20 countries in Asia, Europe, Africa, South America, and North America. He is serving as a General Secretary- Chevening Alumni Association of Nepal.
Abhishek is an athlete, who started following cricket from the 1992 World Cup Cricket final when he was 7. He was born and brought up in Biratnagar, where he played most of his cricket and captained school, club, and college teams. He also played for the Kathmandu University Cricket team from 1st year.
He played as a registered international player under the English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and played for one of the oldest cricket clubs in the world, Firle, founded in 1758. He always dreamt of playing at English ground since childhood, playing in England was his childhood dream come true. While in the UK, he played for the University of Sussex, Men’s First team.
He has successfully completed the International Cricket Council Foundation Course in 2021 and Introduction to Child Protection by UNICEF in 2021.
Abhishek led the Cricket for Equality project in 2017 and 2018 in Biratnagar, which was jointly organized by Connecting Clubs International, UK, and Nepal Cricket Foundation.
